Some people also ask, should there be a multidisciplinary approach to patients who have pruritic diseases? And I think there can be a multitude of reasons that patients itch.
It could be metabolic issues. It could be neurologic issues. It could be stress-related issues that have a supratentorial component. So all of these things play a role.
And I do think a multidisciplinary approach is important, where you make sure the patient's underlying health is okay, their underlying metabolic conditions are okay. You evaluate what the true cause of it is. Is it neurologic? Is it inflammatory? Or is it metabolic? Or is it something else?
And I think once you identify that, you're better able to treat the condition where it needs to be treated. And I think a multidisciplinary approach is very important in identifying true causation.
